Laws are made of words. Words have meanings, and meanings have consequences. When someone asks, “would you support a bill that does X,” even if it sounds like something that might deserve an endorsement on the surface, it is important to see the actual words that make up the legislation.
So let’s take a deeper look at Senate Bill 1273 from the 2024 legislative session, creating a state voter guide. Had it passed, it would have added these pertinent words into law:
